When EIB Construction, Pur4 Studios, and Tarar Development teamed up for the project at 50 Maple Ave, we knew this was more than a renovation—it was a total rejuvenation. This abandoned home, once a cherished part of the local Montclair community, was brought back to life with a complete, full-scope renovation where no detail was overlooked. Our goal was to bring modern living and amenities to the property while preserving its identity and rich history.
As developers, we know the importance of staying on time and on budget. For this project, we established a strong, three-way partnership with the client, our contractor team, and our architect. This close collaboration ensured that timelines, material selections, and budgets stayed on track. With full-service permitting, EIB Construction handled all the paperwork and inspections, ensuring all work was completed to code on the first attempt, allowing us to move the project along efficiently.
The original home had a good foundation, but its layout was dated. We began by incorporating an existing exterior porch into the footprint of the first floor, a decision that unfortunately revealed rotten wood, which we fully replaced. We also removed a chimney to add valuable square footage.
On the second floor, we reconfigured the layout to include a second bathroom. A key "game-time decision" was made to remove three inches from each room to create a slightly larger, more functional hallway bathroom. This meticulous planning allowed us to transform the home from a 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom to a spacious 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom, 2-powder room—a perfect setup for hosting friends and family.
The exterior of the home was also meticulously updated to maintain its identity within the community. We installed new siding and roofing, repaved the existing driveway, and added a privacy fence for a polished, full-project finish. We also demoed all of the existing exterior staircases and built new ones, along with a new walkway and back Trex decking, giving the home a fresh, clean look from every angle.
This project is a testament to our commitment to quality, communication, and craftsmanship. We took an abandoned house and turned it into a modern, welcoming home that honors its past while embracing its future.
